Matthew Esterman
Next Word Founder‒Governance and Compliance Specialist
Matt Esterman has over 20 years’ experience working in schools and beyond as a leading voice in the thoughtful adoption of technology. He is a trained History teacher with two master’s degrees, who has made significant contributions to professional learning in Australia and overseas. He has been recognised with several awards, most recently as a Commonwealth Bank Teaching Fellow (provided by Australian Schools Plus). Matt founded The Next Word, a consultancy that seeks to leverage AI and other technologies to help shape a better future, working with schools, universities, and organisations to increase AI awareness and capability.
He co-authored The Next Word: AI & Teachers with Dr Nick Jackson, which launched in 2024. A regular speaker and workshop facilitator across Australia and internationally, he’s been appointed Adjunct Fellow in the School of Education at Western Sydney University, serves as a casual academic at Macquarie University, and is a member of the HP Futures 2025: AI & Leadership Council.

Trenna has a Bachelor of Arts/Master’s degree in Teaching. As an early-career teacher, she’s passionate about integrating AI tools into her practice to enhance student engagement and outcomes. Trenna recently completed a Professional Certificate in Human-Centred AI with Rapid Ai4 Learning.
She produced a work-based capstone project focused on generative AI in the classroom and has implemented a range of teaching resources for Stage 5 learners with disabilities and EAL/D backgrounds, enhancing their grammatical and content-based understanding in English.
